The Shipping Corporation of India Limited, founded in Mumbai in 1950, is an Indian-based maritime enterprise specializing in the transport of goods, operating as a key player in the niche liner shipping market. Its diverse operations are organized into Liner, Bulk, Tanker, and Technical & Offshore segments. The company commands a varied fleet, which includes bulk carriers, crude oil and product tankers, container ships, LPG/LNG carriers, and specialized offshore supply vessels. The company's liner and passenger service division encompasses container operations, market development, break-bulk freight, and financial reconciliation of cargo shipments. Beyond traditional cargo, SCI delivers extensive offshore marine logistics support. This covers towing and anchor handling, the transport of personnel and critical materials like fuel oil, bulk cement, and various types of water, as well as support for offshore installations, standby and rescue missions, surveillance, and firefighting. Furthermore, it offers operational management, crewing, maintenance, and overall management for specialized vessels involved in well stimulation, geotechnical studies, offshore supply, and mobile offshore drilling. The company is also deeply involved in international trade, managing imports and exports for India. This includes handling oversized, project-specific, and heavy lift cargoes, as well as hazardous (IMO Class I) materials and standard containers. Additional services comprise passenger and general cargo transportation, alongside vessel chartering. Specialized maritime offerings extend to crude oil lighterage and comprehensive dry dock services, encompassing planning, tender evaluation, and vessel scheduling. SCI also provides shipbuilding and technical consultancy, covering project viability assessments, design consultation, project management, and site supervision, in addition to maritime training programs.
